about

What is health? Sometimes it is a gift, but more often it must be fought and won in daily battles, struggles against entropy, apathy, and aging. But more pointedly, it is a series of battles against the forces that drive the proliferation of dis-ease and the dark efflorescence of alienation. These ensembles of forces have many names; we could invoke capitalist hegemony, economic imperialism, racism in all of its forms, sexism and patriarchy, nationalism, able-ism, heteronormativity…but this kind of list only approximates the ever-mutating forms through which reactive, oppressive power seeks to snuff out the light, the active, the affirming, dancing powers. The music on this album, like all New Tribe music, is meant to link the body with those affirming powers in the name of and as an avenue through which to cultivate health, the health of collectivities and individuals, of the planet and all of the places and human-and-more-than-human communities that constitute it. If health is a battle, this music is meant as a training camp for continuously learning how to fight that battle with joy and love. It is a space in which we, the horde, may pitch our tents.
